Like that sketch I tore apart last week—the charcoal smudged where the edges should've met. 
I keep finding those fractures everywhere now. In the way the light hits the dining table at 7 PM. Sharp. 
Too precise.

I found the recipe cards you left; they're out of order again. 
Lamb with juniper berries filed under desserts. I tried cooking it last Tuesday. The smell clung to the curtains for days. 
Rich. Metallic. Like copper pennies left in the rain.

Do you remember the wine pairing? That burgundy you favored. I opened a bottle yesterday. It tasted like earth. 
Like wet soil after a dig. 
I poured it down the sink. Watched it swirl. Darker than blood.

The neighbors complained about the compost again. Said it draws animals. I didn't tell them nothing comes near it. 
Not even flies. Just steam rising on cold mornings. White breath against the frost.

There is a list I keep folding into my pocket. Names, times, small instructions.
